No Green Belt Around Liskeard
Contrary to popular belief, there is no formal Green Belt around Liskeard. The nearest is actually around parts of Bristol! The Green Belt concept is a very special statutory land designation that was originated in 1935 by the Greater London Regional Planning Committee. It proposed there should be "a reserve supply of public open spaces and of recreational areas and to establish a green belt or girdle of open space" around London. Housing ‘Target’ Figures Explained
The starting point in developing the housing figures for Liskeard was in the creation of the 'strategic' planning document for Cornwall known (ironically) as the Local Plan. Public consultation on this will take place in spring 2014, after which Cornwall Council will consider the comments it recieves, and may make changes to the Plan prior to formal submitting it to the Secretary of State. Liskeard Town Council has decided that it wants to create the first Liskeard Neighbourhood Plan, and has applied to Cornwall Council to designate the parish of Liskeard as a Neighbourhood Area, in accordance with the Neighbourhood Planning Regulations 2012. If this designation is made no alternative plan may be designated for that Neighbourhood Area until that designation expires or is withdrawn.
